10+ years recruiting Finance talent
Hiring for Finance roles in France in 2026 is still difficult. The best candidates are currently employed, regularly approached by recruiters and never look at public job postings. Without a direct network and without confidentiality, a search can take several months.
Baruck leads the Finance practice at Lity and works with founders, executive committees and HR directors on Finance searches, with detailed knowledge of the market, compensation packages and career paths.
Learn more about our approachShow less
In Finance, we have worked with many kinds of companies: early-stage startups, Series A to D scale-ups, established mid-market companies and large groups going through a transformation. When the search is run in-house, the hardest profiles stay unfilled for months.
Baruck knows the companies in the Finance market, the actual salary ranges by seniority and company size, and the signs that a candidate is ready to leave. The team knows how to calibrate a junior, mid-level or senior hire, and checks the figures candidates quote before presenting them.
Our method relies on 4 complementary sources. Our LinkedIn Recruiter license for direct outreach to currently employed candidates. Our pool of Finance candidates, which we keep up to date. Referrals from our network of top performers. And our presence at Finance community events. The scorecard is built with you. For actual timelines and results, our case studies document each search.
We work with companies of every size
Startup, scale-up, SME or large enterprise: we adapt our methods to your stage of growth and your hiring needs.
Startup
1 to 30 employees
At pre-seed, finance is handled by the CEO or an outsourced accounting firm. The first finance manager is hired at seed or Series A.
Scale-up
30 to 300 employees
At Series A/B, a Head of Finance or Finance Director joins to run investor reporting, cash and the next round.
SME
50 to 500 employees
In the expansion phase (Series C+), the finance team takes shape (8-15 people) with FP&A, accounting, IR, treasury and M&A.
Large companies
Mid-market companies and large groups
In large and mid-size companies, the finance department is complete, with consolidation, tax, business unit controlling and cross-functional roles (IR, M&A).

CFO, DAF, RAF: what’s the difference in France?
All three titles cover the same scope: finance, accounting, treasury, management control and financing. The difference lies mainly in the relationship with the board.
- CFO (Chief Financial Officer): the English title that dominates in French tech scale-ups, which deal with VC investors
- DAF (Directeur Administratif et Financier): the traditional French corporate title, common in mid-size companies and large groups, which deal with family shareholders
- RAF (Responsable Administratif et Financier): one level below, mostly in SMBs
How do you assess a CFO in an interview?
To assess a CFO in an interview, we look at four areas:
- Measurable track record: funding rounds led, LBOs or IPOs completed, team built
- Technical skills: IFRS, consolidation, banking relationships, tax
- Strategic vision: ability to discuss the P&L and growth strategy with a board and a CEO
- Soft skills: leadership, communication, ability to deliver bad news to shareholders
A good CFO talks about business strategy and fundraising, not just accounting reports.
Is the scale-up finance market tight in 2026?
The scale-up finance market is very tight in 2026, with wide differences between profiles.
- Scale-up CFOs with IPO or LBO experience: very tight market
- Former investment bankers (M&A) moving into scale-ups: actively headhunted
- Senior FP&A and heads of accounting with experience at Stripe, Datadog or Doctolib: get the best offers
- Junior generalist financial controllers: a more competitive market
- Fractional CFOs (3-4 days a month for Series A/B startups): a fast-growing market with attractive packages
Which certifications and degrees are valued in finance?
Several degrees and certifications carry particular weight in finance.
- Schools: HEC, ESSEC, ESCP (finance tracks), Dauphine
- French accounting qualifications: DSCG or DEC, with the DSCG still central for senior accountants
- CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst): highly valued for M&A and FP&A
- ACCA: for international corporate roles
- FP&A Pro or CMA: certifications that are gaining value
- Big 4: time at an audit firm (EY, PwC, KPMG, Deloitte) is a clear advantage
Candidates with both a business school degree and the CFA get the best offers.
What career paths are open in finance?
Finance careers usually follow a classic path:
Financial Controller → Senior FP&A → Finance Manager → Director of Finance → Finance Director (DAF) → CFO
Several specializations and career moves add to this path:
- Valued specializations: Treasurer, Head of Accounting, FP&A Manager, Internal Auditor
- Interesting career moves: Operating Partner at a private equity fund, M&A at an investment bank, independent board member
- Fractional CFO: many senior CFOs move to this model (€1200 to €1800 per day for 2-3 scale-ups) or start their own finance advisory firm
- Moving to CEO: a move seen in mid-size companies
